Metrology and the Economy
The Ministry has commissioned a study on the role metrology plays in the New Zealand economy. We invite your comments before the Ministry publishes the study in final form as a Ministry paper.
The study was prepared for the Ministry by Brian Easton.
The purpose of the study is to:
- provide the Ministry with a resource to highlight the importance measurements are to the New Zealand economy and to the social wellbeing of New Zealanders (this is seen as key to providing effective advice to Government and government agencies)
- provide industry with advice on the importance of measurements to their business
- establish the risks associated with poor measurements, which need to be considered for individual companies and to New Zealand’s international and domestic trade.
The final paper will be a resource available to Government, its agencies, and industry to ensure that the measurement capability within New Zealand maximises our trading ability internationally and promotes fairness in our domestic economy.
The views expressed in the study are currently those presented by Mr Easton. Before the Ministry accepts them and publishes them as the Ministry’s paper we are seeking a range of comments from those key organisations which have an interest in the role of measurement within the New Zealand economy.
Please provide any comments you wish to make to John Barker, Manager, Trading Standards Service, PO Box 1473, Wellington, email
john.barker@mca.govt.nz, by Friday 4 February 2000.
